UCL gets cycling!
Try commuting to work by bike with “Go vélo”. A fun and enriching experience offered by Pro Velo, with the support of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL).
Go vélo at a glance
A gathering + a training course + a full-scale test = Go vélo!
With “Go vélo”, you receive training and support, and are also given a quality bike to test your active mobility on your daily commute.
5 good reasons to get involved:
- You will understand the many advantages of cycling to get around;
- You will benefit from a fully equipped bike, adapted to your requirements;
- You will discover the best cycling routes close to your office;
- It will be an opportunity to have some fun with your colleagues;
- You will help to promote a passion for cycling in your company.
Places are limited to 12 participants per test.
The test bikes
A fleet of 12 bicycles is made available to UCL employees for 4 weeks. In order to meet different requirements (multimodality, getting children from A to B, etc.), a selection of different bike types is available:
- 9 electric bikes from the Belgian brand ‘Oxford’
- 2 folding bikes (electric and analogue) from the Belgian brand ‘Ahooga’
- 1 longtail cargo bike (longer at the rear) from the Belgian brand ‘Bike43’
Each bike is equipped with a padlock and a bag, and is insured against theft.
Coaching
The bike test begins with a 2.5-hour practical training session, in which participants will master the techniques and gain the confidence to cycle around town safely.
Why is coaching important?
- Because you will be surprised to (re)discover some often forgotten parts of the Highway Code.
- Because after this experience, you will feel more confident riding your bike in the city, and better understand your rights as a cyclist.
- Because in addition to learning lots of tricks and tips in just two hours, you will have a fun time as a team and your enthusiasm for cycling will be fully (re)boosted.
- Because this coaching will allow you to discover the best cycling routes close to your office.
